Household Tips For An Easier Move

Packing up an entire house, apartment, or condominium always involves a 'to do' list that is a mile long. The entire list is never checked off until the old home is in the rear-view mirror of the moving van. No sooner have you completed the list to get you moved out , but you start in on the equally long list to get moved in to your new home. Here are some quick household tips to help make the process a little easier:

1. Carpet Stains
Baby wipes work well and store easily.
Also, dab some club soda on the spot and blot.

2. Store Candles in Fridge
Or store several hours prior to using them.
A cold candle will drip slower and last longer.

3. Microwave Splatters
Heat half-cup of water for two minutes on high.
The steam will soften the food and the mess wipes right out.

4. Eliminate Cooking Odors
Especially fish, bacon, garlic, etc.
Heat white vinegar in an uncovered pot on stove - don't boil.
Remove after 30 minutes.
The light vinegar smell dissipates quickly, taking odors with it.

5. Sharpen Coffee Grinder Blades
Run through the grinder a handful of dried rice

6. Leftover Beer
Your garden and house plants love the yeast.

7. Soap Remnants
Place remnants of soap in a ventilated plastic bag.
Pack with seasonal clothes.
This keeps the moths away and clothes will smell fresh.

8. Ant Problems
Ants hate anything spicy.
Sprinkle ground pepper, cayenne or cinnamon in their path.

9. Tarnished Silverware
Line a large cake pan with aluminum foil.
Fill with 8 cups of warm water (150 temp)
Gently stir in ¼ cup baking soda.
Lay silverware in pan and watch stains disappear.

10 Fill Nail Holes
Use a paste made from cornstarch and water.
Works just as well as putty.

11. Storing Leather Clothing
Leather needs to breathe.
Never store leather coats or jackets in plastic.
Instead, make a dust cover from a pillowcase.
Cut a small hole in the top of case for the hanger.

12. Wooden Door or Gate Sticks
Blow hot air from hair dryer directly on the area sticking.
This removes moisture and the swelling will go down.

13. Squeaky Door Hinges
Use petroleum jelly on the hinges instead of oil.

14. Scent of Apple Pie
Simmer sliced apple and cinnamon sticks in water.
