Nobody Knows My Name

"Who are you?" said the caterpillar.
"I—I hardly know, Sir, just at present," Alice replied rather shyly. "At least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then."
Lewis Carroll – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

"…the biggest luggage tag I wore in moving was one that read "LOSS OF IDENTITY." That was the most difficult obstacle I had to face in my effort to start over. I really felt as if I’d lost my credentials and nobody knew my name! The changes that a move brings can often be devastating and lead us to question who we are. We feel like we've lost part of ourself in the transition.

Our true identity is found in Christ, not (as the world would have us believe) in our appearance, our performance, or our status. We can’t find our identity through other people. God wants to be the most significant person in our lives.

We all have a need to feel loved and accepted. We all need to feel like we belong somewhere or to someone. If these things are lacking, or are out of balance because of our move, it can contribute to our loss of identity, self-esteem, or self-image. That’s why it’s so vital for us to know who we are in Christ in the midst of change in our lives.

When everything around you is changing, remember these things that never change!

Who you are in Christ.
Jesus wants you to know that you are most precious to Him.

The Lord your God has chosen you…to be His people, His treasured possession.
- Deuteronomy 7:6

You are incredibly loved!
I have loved you with an everlasting love.
- Jeremiah 31:3

You are known inside and out!
O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me.
- Psalm 139:1

You are accepted with no strings attached!
He hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Ephesians 1:6

You are in process to become like Christ!
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
- Philippians 1:6

You are valued beyond measure!
See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God.
- 1 John 3:1

You are custom-designed and unique!
For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb… I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
- Psalm 139:13-14

You are made for a reason and a purpose!
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.
- Jeremiah 1:5

There is someone who knows your name!
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!"
- Isaiah 43:1
