Rest and Recharge

These summer days may find you with too much time on your hands (you’ve settled in to your new home and lack the connections and involvements to keep you busy) or tearing your hair out over your long list of responsibilities (you’re preparing for a move). Lest the responsibilities and details, or loneliness and disconnection of a move drain you dry, include some personal 'pick-me-ups' that may help to recharge you.

Be In God’s Word and Spend Time In Prayer...
God has promised to use all of your circumstances for your growth and to honor Him. Even if you can only devote 5 minutes, you are in a better position to recognize His leading and to meet daily challenges with grace and patience. Devotional books can be wonderful guides through scripture reading. Visit our 'Recommended Reading' for devotional ideas. (go now)

At Least Twice A Week Take Time For Yourself...
What is it that rejuvenates you? A walk, a bubble bath surrounded by candles, reading a book or magazine in a quiet place (You may have to go to the library!); set aside a few minutes to refill and recharge.

Find That Special Activity...
Once the dust settles after a move, take a class for personal development or to improve your abilities for a favorite hobby. This is a great way to meet people with similar interests.

Family Game Nights...
Designate two nights each month as Family Game Nights. Order pizza so that you don’t have to cook.

Snazz It Up - One Room At A Time...
Paint at least one wall with a bold color that makes a statement. Purchase or make slip covers for the furniture. Paint wooden furniture a shabby chic white, a rich black with bronze accents, or a whimsical color. Scour your house for accessories that you may have never thought to put in your dazzling new room.

Grab A Night Out ...
Pack a picnic lunch or dinner and eat at the park or beach. Stop by that restaurant you've been wanting to try. Many areas provide free open air concerts on certain evenings. When you lack a babysitter, creativity can still make for a fun evening. Call local eating establishments and ask about their delivery and carry out options. Set up a table with candles, flowers, and your best dishes and have your dinner delivered!

Avoid Dehydration Headaches and Fatique...
Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go. Drinking plenty of water helps flush out toxins and keeps your body hydrated.

Catch And Release...
It's time to pull out those lingering items from the back of your closet! Simplifying your wardrobe can be very freeing and reduce decision-making. Donate clothes you haven't worn in the past year or earn some fun money and store credit by using the local consignment store.

Encourage And Motivate Yourself...
Listen to CDs or podcasts that encourage and motivate you. If you're short on time, grab some ear phones and listen while you're doing household chores or driving around town.

Keep A Journal...
...as you process your emotional, spiritual, and physical issues surrounding a move. Each time you discover something that recharges you, write it into your journal using green ink. At the end of the week, revisit those green (growing) journal entries and be encouraged.
