The local welcome service was key to the union of a diverse group of women who moved to southwestern Wake County, NC. We came together as Christian women in unfamiliar surroundings… not necessarily associated to a particular church or denomination. Our group included 8 women who had moved from all over the U.S. Strong bonds were quickly evident. Initially, the bond that we shared was that we were all new, lonely, and searching. We ended the study as a group of close-knit friends who came together because of a common need for God, His encouragement, and the support of other Christian women.
Our group continued to meet weekly after the Moving On! study was completed. We visited the Christian bookstore together and decided to study a book on enhancing our marriages. It got really personal then! We decided that we didn’t need to “blame” our spouses for bringing us together, but celebrate that they did! It’s a whole new way of thinking!
One of our outings was to a meal preparation store in our town. The photo includes 5 of our 8 participants. We coordinated monthly group outings to prepare meals for our families while catching up with our “new best friends.”
