Christy, active duty air force spouse

On The Move Again

Do you know what it’s like to follow your husband into strange territory like Sarah followed Abraham? Well, I do.

My husband is in the Air Force and has been for almost 19 years. We move every 2-3 years. In those 19 years, we have moved a total of 8 times. We have lived in 7 states and in Central America.

It is a lonely life sometimes. I have become very lonely for family and friends. When we are in a not so good place where people are not sure how to treat military I especially feel it. I sometimes just want to run home where I know people really love me.

This life is also a tiring one. I have been so tired that I just want to lie down somewhere and sleep when we are PCSing—moving.

Have you ever been traveling and thought, “I can’t feel my backside anymore?” We went from California to Nebraska in 4 days traveling up to 14 hours a day. By the time we got to Nebraska, I did not want to get into another car.

We have had 5 blown tires in a 4-day time period. Our first response was to scream and say we quit but none of us did that, for which my husband was thankful.

I get tired of moving all the time, but there is a reason I do it. I do it more than because the Air Force is sending us to a new duty station. I do it because I want to be obedient to the Lord.

You see, we wives are told to love and obey our husbands. Now, I did not write the Bible so I hope no one is yelling at me. Even though we don’t like what the Bible says we still have to obey it if we want the blessings of God.

I am so thankful I am not Abraham’s wife. He was not even sure where he was going. The Lord would show Abraham where the land of promise would be. I can only imagine following your husband in a desert, with no bathrooms, and riding a stinky camel instead of in a car.

My husband has never challenged or tried to change our orders. He believes the Lord picked that place, so why fight it. It is my job to follow him. It is my job to trust him where we are going and that the Lord is going before us.

So if you find yourself married to a man who is in the military, an evangelist, or a traveler, trust him. If your husband is saved, anointed, and a praying man, trust in that. God will never lead him to a place where you will be destroyed. The Lord will go before you and prepare everything for you. Sit back and enjoy your new destination. Rest in knowing that God is not a backseat driver, but He’s the one taking you to where He sees greater things to come in your life.
