Wow! My heart is still beating with joy from speaking to military spouses gathered together for a retreat hosted by the PWOC at Hickam Air Force Base. Women came from Kaneohe Marine Base, Pearl Harbor Navy Base, Camp Smith Air Force Base and Tripler,Schofield, Ft. Shafter and Wheeler Army Bases. (I don't want to leave anyone out!)

After spending three days with these incredible women, I had the privilege of seeing God's word bring hope, comfort, and encouragement to so many lives that have been uprooted by moving. We laughed and cried as we shared our joy and our pain together. We prayed for one another and joined hands in worship. We walked away feeling refreshed and renewed in our spirits as we focused on Christ and not our circumstances.

These precious women are in the trenches of military life, many of whom are holding their families together in the absence of their husbands who are deployed. They face the unknown with brave hearts and a strong faith. Many have just moved to a base and are experiencing the adjustment and transition of being in unfamiliar surroundings and starting all over again. Then there are those who are facing the challenges of yet another move that has become an expected part of military life. They, too, face the unknown with a persevering heart and a strong faith.

My life is never the same after I am in the presence of military spouses. They touch my heart, strengthen my faith, and keep me humble. They are ordinary women who are called to do extraordinary things as wives and moms. When you stop and pray for the men and women who are serving our country in the Armed Forces, remember to pray for the spouses and families left behind. They, too, are my heroes!

PS: I'm off this weekend to Ft. Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, Texas!

Allow Change To Strengthen Your Faith
...I am praying for you and your ministry! I am reading your book "After the Boxes are Unpacked." It is really helping me as I grieve my friends and the ministry the Lord had me leave behind when we moved. I am praying fervently for God's direction as to how he wants me to serve. Love and Blessings

Becoming Blank

Quiet, says the soft music filling the open room.
Creative, says the unfinished scrapbook on the desk.
Busy, says the untidy place with shoes everywhere.
Obviously restless, says the unmade bed.
Private, says the cold, unvisited cove.
A reader, say the many books on the shelves.
Secretive, say the many friends who go untold but soon, hopefully, they will get to know.

Full of life, says the room with many colors - orange, pink, purple on the walls, but so blank and empty and full of doubt.
Soon and very soon, say the packed boxes in the cold corners full of memories of long ago.
Lonely, say the many pictures put away for the long ride to wherever they may go.
So very empty, says the echoing sound when she leaves for the door.

Waiting, says the “For Sale” sign next to the empty flower pot in the yard.
Stressed, say the many papers scattered everywhere.
Going, says the moving truck in the driveway ready to go.
Sad, says the cat perched in the blank, forlorn corner, but
happy say the kids’ faces when they hear about the new places.
A new chapter with a slam of the door, no Texas anymore.

Morgan Reeves, age 12
