I have many wonderful memories of Christmas to carry me into this new year. One in particular was about a nativity set that I had given to all my grandchildren to play with to help them learn about the birth of Jesus.
A priceless moment was when my 4-1/2 year old grandson and his little sister were playing with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. They would take them all over the house playing out the scene in the manager. Invariably, they would loose one of the little figures along the way and then desparately search room to room for who was missing.
After overhearing my granddaughter say, "Mary is
lost, where is Mary?" Austin, who had lost baby Jesus somewhere between his bedroom and the Christmas tree downstairs, ran through the house saying with excitement, "I found Jesus! I found Jesus!"
I smiled at his innocence in not quite grasping the impact of those words. Oh that we would all find Jesus with that same kind of profound joy and excitement! Sometimes in the busyness of our days, we seem to lose sight of Him, only to rediscover He's been there all along.
In this new year, I hope you too will "find Jesus" - in unexpected places, in the ordinary of your days, some where between where your morning started and your night ends. He's just waiting for you to discover Him, or find Him and to call Him by name. And when you do, I can just see the excite- ment in your eyes as you say "I found Jesus! I found Jesus!"
Jeremiah 29:13 - And you will seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.

I've kept this gold key as a memory of such.
The color looks warm but it's cold to the touch.
It opened the door to a home far away...
to memories of farmland and fresh mowed hay.
The Spring had just melted the last Winter snow,
bulbs had emerged and were starting to grow.
No longer were memories displayed in their frames
just discolored walls and some fingerprint stains.
Stark walls were a contrast to past
joys in that home
of kids growing up and good friends on the phone.
The doorbell's last ring meant the truck had arrived.
To the neighbors it appeared like some carnival ride.
The truck's giant door rattled open with pride...
That same empty space I was feeling inside...
...Still cold to the touch is that key in my hand
as my kids bring me back to life's daily demands.
A year and one day since we moved to this state.
It's been a tough journey, what growth for my faith.
Though no Winter snow has the Springtime to melt,
great things are emerging from the hand God has dealt.
