This has been an extremely busy few months at Just Moved! Teaching a weekly 'Moving On After Moving In class,' planning and implementing ministry outreach events and a fundraiser, meeting the daily office and staff needs as our ministry grows--just to name a few of the things going on!
I always marvel at how God uses everything in our life to bring Himself into focus. If we take the time to listen, to observe, to be still, to be be quiet, to slow down-then hopefully we get His message loud and clear. I'm at my best when I do any one of those things and feel the impact of His presence permeate my mind and my heart. The messenger is ever present in my life, waiting for me to get His message.
I was preparing to speak five times at a conference in California recently. I don't take the honor of speaking and teaching the application of God's word lightly. I pour myself into preparation. In fact, I don't take anything I do in ministry lightly. It is an honor and privilege to serve my Lord and I want to give my all and my best.
In one of my sessions, the audience would be pastor's wives and women in leadership. I felt a real tug at my heart to minister encouragement to these women who pour out their lives for others. God had given me a message I titled, "Up Close and Personal", and I was excited about how I was going to encourage them to take care of themselves first, in order to be able to serve and lead.
As I outlined my talk and began to write, a jolt of reality hit me--I was describing myself! I fit the description of a borderline burn-out! Symptoms of being exhausted, physically run down, low energy, overwhelmed, trouble sleeping and tearful outbursts--fit me like a glove! It was frightening to see what was happening to me physically and emotionally, all because I was not taking care of myself and losing balance in my life.
God had my full attention. I got His message loud and clear. How could I talk the talk and not walk the walk? First, I had to take care of myself and fill up again in order to pour out to others. I had been running on empty and it was catching up with me! Perhaps you've had a hectic and busy schedule lately. Maybe you meet yourself coming and going, with no rest or self-care in between. Perhaps you too are running on empty.
I've made the choice that the only running I will do is to run to Jesus and rest in Him.
"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28
He will fill me up as I dwell in Him, abide in Him and follow His gentle leading. Then, and only then, can we even begin to pour out ourselves to our family and to others.

What has helped you to make a fresh start in a new home?
Trina in Arizona
Hook up the stereo and play Christian music to help you keep perspective and to inspire you to keep going!
Pat in Washington
Plant some flowers. In winter plant them indoors, otherwise get outside and create something beautiful to look at through your windows.
Bonnie in California
Paint something! Add a splash of color to a piece of furniture or to a wall to personalize and perk up a new home.
Janae in Arizona
Each room has a special cross that hangs by it's doorway. The cross in our bedroom was a gift at our wedding. The kids each picked out a special cross for their rooms. The dining room cross was made by an artist who has no arms. We have packed and unpacked these crosses with each of our 14 moves. That simple routine brings so much peace because it provides a moment in the chaos to lift up that family member and ask for God's guidance during this transition.

My Security Comes From God
My husband pulled out of our driveway in Illinois on Saturday to relocate to Colorado. I'm staying until the end of the school year with our 14-year-old son. I sat down to read 'After the Boxes are Unpacked' and there on page 15 it jumped out at me. "My security does not come from a house or any other thing for that matter." THANK YOU for reminding me not to question why we are leaving, it is in God's hands and he is an excellent pilot! I called my husband and read him that sentence and he asked me to mail him the book when I'm done-even though it's a "women's book". I've book marked the web site and am sure I'll be referring to it in the days to come.
Marianne in Illinois
aa(God is so good to bring us timely reminders that He is to be aatrusted. He will be with you every step of the way through this aamove, Marianne.)
Grateful For The Just Moved! DVD Series
Hi Everyone! I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the Just Moved! DVD series. We've joined a church but it's very big. I'm just getting to know a few people so just keep me in your prayers. Thanks so much for the ministry you guys do there. Moving so many times has definitely been the most traumatic times in my life thus far, and your ministry has definitely made it much easier!
Tina in Tennessee
aa(We'll be praying for you, Tina. God uses every move to help us aaknow Him better. You may not feel that you've had time in any aaone place to allow your roots to go deep, but if your roots are aadeep in Jesus, you can weather any storm.)
The Right Resources Can Make A Difference
Just a quick note to let you know I'm moving again. Our new house is about an hour away but, as you all know, it doesn't matter if it's across the street or the ocean, it's still a move. I still think of how Just Moved! helped me with my last move and other issues in my life. Once I'm settled again, I'll be looking you up on the internet for that little bit of support that you do so well, even long distance. I don't know why and I can't explain it, but Just Moved! gives me a special comfort feeling that I need.
Lori from Ghana
aa(We praise God for being able to encourage you, Lori, across aathe many miles that separate us! Lean hard on Jesus, your aaPillar of Strength.)
Allow Change To Strengthen Your Faith
I am really struggling to adjust here. This move wasn't just a ding, it was (is) a major crash!! I'm a Christian, but I'm struggling with being bitter and angry. I feel like I did when my parents died: grief stricken. We have been going to a church here and that helps, but sometimes I just want to scream!
Newcomer in Michigan
aa(Trust God's presence as you begin this journey. Does your aachurch provide a 'Moving On' NEWcomer's class? If not, contact aaus or your church and consider being one of the class leaders.)
Ready to Move Ahead
With the writing of 'After the Boxes Are Unpacked' you have definitely honored and glorified God; page after page after page. I could not have survived our move without the help of your book. For whatever reason, this was one of the most difficult moves for me. Probably what I appreciated most was the written Word tucked into each chapter - right where I needed it. Not having to look up all the scripture passages made a huge difference. Through the reading of every sentence, paragraph, and chapter, you were there as my best friend; walking with me step by step through the process of letting go and starting over. I was continually reminded of God's faithfulness. Praise God, after 6 months I'm finally ready to move ahead.
Leah in Georgia

Someone once said,
'After so many moves you must be used to it!'
I replied that I'd had a lot of headaches,
but have never gotten used to having them!

Slow me down, Lord
Ease the pounding of my heart
by the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace with
a vision of the eternal reach of time.
Give me, amid the confusion of the day,
the calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tensions
of my nerves and muscles
with the soothing music
of the singing streams
that live in my memory.
Help me to know the
magical,
restoring power of sleep.
Teach me the art of
taking minute vacations,
of slowing down to look at a flower,
to chat with a friend, to pat a dog,
to read a few lines from a good book.
Slow me down, Lord, and inspire me
to send my roots deep into the soil
of life's enduring values
that I may grow toward the stars
of my greater destiny.
