Seize the moment...
February is one of my favorite months because "love" and "hearts" are the recurring theme. They are both an intricate part of my everyday life. Hearts are visible in my home, in our ministry, and in this newsletter. I verbilize "love and heart" a lot in my writing and communication as a display of love and affection. My friends are accustomed to getting an assortment of heart gifts throughout the year.
It should be no surprise that this letter each month is called "Heart Talk" and I always sign, "From My Heart to Yours" as a means of conveying my feeling of close connection and love for you. I have everything from heart plates, plaques, pictures and stationary, to a heart paperweight collection on my desk. I am also an incurable romantic. A day doesn't go by that I don't say to Bill, my husband of 42 years, "I love you." My children and grandchildren often hear the phrase, "I love you with all my heart."
When I recently read a quote by Goethe that says, "We are shaped and fashioned by what we love," it resonated within me. Oh, may I always be shaped and fashioned by my love for Jesus! May I always strive to love as sacrificially and unconditionally as He loves! Let my love and my heart reflect the love and heart of Jesus through my words and actions. That's the essence of what this month is all about. It's not about the commercialism of love from the world's perspective for Valentine's Day. It's all about the love of Jesus! May I never speak and write the word 'love' or 'heart' without first being shaped and fashioned in the image of the one who defines true love.
It's something for all of us to think about, isn't it? Life is short my friends, Carpe diem—seize the day! or better yet, let's all seize the moment to reflect the love of Jesus, not only this month, but always!
We can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him. - II Corinthians 3:18 LB
