Abraham and Sarah-'moving mentors' for all movers!

We can get the picture of their obedient love to God and one another as we read about their journey in Genesis chapters 12-23. As a mover, you can easily imagine Sarah's thoughts and what her questions might have been. "Do what, Abraham? Go where? How far is it? How long will it take?" I'm sure she had never thought about moving! Abraham was successful in the city of Ur. They had a comfortable home and financial security. Then one day, Abraham came home and said, "Sarah, God has told me to leave here and move to another country. I don't know where we're going. I only know He's commanded this and I must obey.."

You could have had similiar questions and feelings that went through Sarah's mind. "But..., what about our home? What about our friends? I don't know if I can leave this place where I've lived since I was a child. We've been in this home since we were married. I grew up here, and now you want to take me away to a strange land, with no idea of where we're going, or how we're going to get there!"

I'm sure there was laughter and tears and lots of hugs as they prepared to leave; and then Sarah and Abraham were gone, swallowed up in a cloud of dust from their caravan. Sarah left behind so much that had been her security. You can almost feel her heart wrenching as she left her beloved home for an unknown place. She went with Abraham out of love, commitment, and obedience; but she must have been torn emotionally between staying and leaving, as many of us have felt at some time.

I'm sure Sarah learned a lot about herself from that move. She discovered that her security came from trusting God for what lies ahead, not in what she left behind. She found that God moved her from a place of comfort to a place of spiritural growth as she trusted in Him. She learned not to hold onto things too tightly in order to embrace what God had planned for her.

Not only can we identify with Sarah, we can learn valuable biblical principles that will equip us for any move:
* OBEDIENCE in seeking to do God's will
* FAITH in the promises of God
* TRUST Him for provision
* HOPE for the unknown future

If you are facing a move this year, let Abraham and Sarah's story be an encouragement to your heart and a light for your journey!

Scripture To Remember
And the Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear, or be dismayed.
- Deuteronomy 31:8

Question To Consider
Will I move forward in obedience, faith, trust and hope?

Prayer
Oh Lord, remove any fear I might have about this move. Grant me your peace as I trust you for what lies ahead. Amen.

Thought for the Day
I will remember God's faithfulness in all things!
