The emotional "luggage tags" we wear when moving identify our feelings (and the emotional baggage we carry with us). Many times these emotional luggage tags become "giants" in our life and keep us from starting over and moving ahead.
I am reminded of the story of David, (I Samuel:17) who faced a "giant" in his life named Goliath. David had to overcome his giant, just as you have to overcome the giants you might face before, or after, moving such as anger, fear, discouragement, disappointment, hurt, comparison, or loneliness. Whatever your giant luggage tags might be, there is much to learn from David's story. I love the verse that reads, "Then David left his baggage in the care of the baggage keeper." (I Samuel:22). He left behind the things that would encumber him and keep him from getting to the battle line to see his brothers. We too, can leave behind our baggage in the care of our baggage keeper, Jesus Christ. There is nothing too big for Jesus to handle or to carry for us.
As you choose to let go, start over, and move ahead with your life after relocating, these are the things I would encourage you to do:
Choose to begin...
...let go of the emotional baggage you're still carrying, those emotions and feelings that are keeping you in bondage. Leave them in the hands of the One who loves you and who can heal you, Jesus Christ .
Rely on God's faithfulness...
(I Samuel:37) Just as David recalled God's faithfulness to him in the past, recall the times of God's faithfulness in your own life as a reminder of what God has done, and can do.
Be equipped...
...to face your giants with these five smooth stones:
(I Samuel:40)
1) Faith - David knew that killing the giant was an impossible task without God's help. He had faith that he could face his giant with God's strength.
2) Prayer - Don't attempt to stand up to your giants until you go down on your knees in prayer! You can't fight anger with anger, but you can fight anger with prayer.
3) Bible Study - God's word will keep you on track with His truth and His promises.
4) Fellowship - Seek out the fellowship of Christian friends. It's important not to feel alone as we face the obstacles that we need to overcome.
5) Perseverance - Keep on keeping on! Don't give up and don't give in.
