Quick to praise. Quick to thank.
Let us be quicker to praise than to find fault. Let us be quicker to thank others than to complain.
Desmond Tutu
Let go:
Are you quick to criticize or complain?
Start over:
Pause before uttering a criticism or complaint. As you pause, think of a word of praise or thanks that you can say. Be open to a different perspective. Respect and honor others even if you disagree with them. Be gracious about your circumstances without judging or correcting.
Move Forward:
Instead of offering your perspective, criticism, or complaint, ask questions. Seek to gain a better understanding of another’s perspective. Open yourself to a new way of seeing. Lead with kindness.
Three steps to move forward with your life is based on encouragement from Susan Miller’s bestselling book, After the Boxes Are Unpacked. The book guides uprooted women through the process of letting go of the past, starting over with trust, and moving forward in faith.
Quick to Praise, quick to thank, is a perfect reminder as the holidays approach. My new mantra is, love, that’s all. Relationships that are dear to me don’t need my criticism or help, unless asked for. Anyway, I appreciate my Just Moved family and these timely words of wisdom.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Polly.
