Practice Self-Care
Three steps to move forward with life
Self-care is never a selfish act—it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer to others.
Parker Palmer
Let go:
You want to be helpful, thoughtful, and willing to make sacrifices when it comes to your family, friends, and coworkers. But are you also practicing self-care?
Start over:
Self-care is defined as, “The practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.” (Oxford English Dictionary). How are you doing when it comes to self-care?
Move forward:
Consider these ideas as you create a plan for self-care:
- Eat a healthy meal
- Engage in exercise
- Go for a walk
- Pray
- Drink water
- Practice good sleep hygiene
- Sit in the sunlight
- Take a shower or bath
- Reflect on things you are grateful for
- Connect with nature
Three steps to move forward with your life is based on encouragement from Susan Miller’s bestselling book, After the Boxes Are Unpacked. The book guides uprooted women through the process of letting go of the past, starting over with trust, and moving forward in faith.
